I was just going to stand back and watch until your last comment. <BR> <BR>There is nothing unrespecatable about a nude beach. Austalia, along with an number of other countries have legal nude beaches. Anyone who has done any degree of international travelling realizes that it is mostly the Aericans that are prudish. <BR> <BR>The beaches are nude...they are not lewd or lascivious. I have met politicians, lawyers, doctors, college professors and ministers on these beaches. <BR> <BR>Many people who use this message board, go nude on beaches. Conde Naste Traveller, along with other magazines, recognize that when write about nude beach availability. <BR> <BR>To quote Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along"....there are plenty of beaches out there for us to be able to share.

For clarity you will notice that Johns response to my original post (my attempt at humour!) has been removed by Fodors - my second post referred to Johns obscene reply and was not a reference to nude beaches (to each their own I say). The response from John was the issue not the beach, <BR>Rgds <BR>Michael <BR>ps: far to chilly down here at the moment to even think of taking your clothes off anyway

I am from Perth and there is a nude beach over there called Swanbourne, the area is somewhat remote with limited access, some distance between two more popular beachs. The area is safe, there are no perverts, molesters, etc. It is just an accepted thing, no one makes a big deal of it. Australians are not shy to bare some skin. On most beachs of Perth you will see some women topless, even on the most popular beachs such as Scarboro and Cott. Away from popular spots, there are always semi nude suntanners. No one makes a big deal, it is just common practise. Go to Europe, just about every one is naked there! It is not for every one, myself included, but each to his own.

Karyn.. <BR> <BR>The point is that nude beaches seem to attract greater numbers of educated, sophisticated travellers than clothed beaches. <BR>The poster earlier seem to imply that there was something wrong with individuals seeking nude beach info.

dick, i agree with you but i think the poster later said that he was actually being judgemental of Johns interest in seeking a nude beach.
On a related topic, I have just realised (as I prepare my next trip to NZ) that I have never seen the australian attitudes to swim suits (or the lack of them) in NZ.
is there a law against topless or nude bathing in NZ?

No, no, no - the box jelly fish would probably get you - for safe dipping on beaches for the next six months or so you need a head to toe lycra stinger suit - beaches are too hot here just to lie in the sun. For sometime nude resort try the White Cockatoo at Mossman.

Crickey Mate! I must have been missing something as I have wandered my way around Australian beaches over all these years. I had never thought to do a survey as to whether a person with big nude ....... was a University Student or not and come to think of it no-one has ever asked me, but the no-one has ever asked me how old I am when I buy alcohol either. Perhaps its only those people on those type of beaches who regard the relevence of taking your clothes off as important. But the very fact that the majority of people i.e. about 99.9% do wear swimmers would seem to me to mean therefore that the majority of University graduates wore clothing when at the beaches. I am far more interested in whether a guy has a hairy bum or not actually. On that subject I have noticed that there are more hairy bums on the beaches in Victoria than in say Queensland to which I must conclude that in Queensland there is a higher rate of sales of hair remover.

Marsketa - still illegal in Queensland, I'm afraid although they keep talking about changing the legislation. It's usually tolerated at Buchan Point unless some high minded resident stands on tippy toe to see them through their apartment window and calls the police. This happened only a couple of years ago when two German tourists were arrested. Wouldn't try it at Trinity - it considers itself a "family" beach. White Cockatoo motel at Mossman caters for nudists at certain times of year.

In my experience, the more relaxed the locals are, the more likely you are to find Clothing Optional beaches - therefore, if you are in the Cairns area, head for Cape Trib where there is a more accepting and easy going attitude. Many of the offshore islands also advertise "nudey" or "secluded" and "private" beaches in their brochures, which is another fair indication.
I understand their is also a "nude cruise" planned to travel from Sydney to Cairns early in 2005? Does anyone know anymore about this?

There are many Queensland beaches which are so isolated and un-populated, and with no police presence that no-one would notice if one was nude or what. The question was about legality and as far as I'm aware it is still illegal in Queensland. Topless is OK, said the Mayor of Cairns, when there were complaints about European backpackers' boob exposure around the newish swimming lagoon right in the middle of the city. There were folks who didn't like their children to be exposed to such sights. There's a few B&B's in the area with relaxed attitudes about dress or lack of it - usually promoted on "naturists" sites.

I hear that Tony from the "White Cockatoo" is promoting another beach near his resort as a likely nude beach. Does anybody know the name of that beach? Tony would know about the Nude Cruise next year, too.

It occurs to me that here in QLD, we are missing out on a lot of potential tourist trade from this untapped specialist tourist market of nudists because we are the ONLY state NOT to have legal nude beaches in Australia. The tourists will go to other states or indeed to New Zealand (where there are not the same out of date rules) instead of coming here. Cairns beaches may have stingers and be too hot in Summer but what about in winter. Cairns and indeed anywhere in QLD would be an ideal holiday destination for people who live in our southern states to come to in winter. So why don't we have nude beaches?
