Need Help with Shore Acitivities on South Pacific Cruise

My husband and I (active, early/mid 60's) are taking a cruise in the fall with stops at: Hilo, Honolulu, Pago Pago, Suva, Port Vila, Easo, and Noumea. We would prefer not to take ship excursions -- have much more fun doing our own thing.

Of course, the one drawback of crusing is that your time in port is quite limited, so we would love some suggestions on how to best spend one day in each of these locations. We want to do some snorkeling for sure, but we are also interested in island culture, the arts, and WWII history.

Thanks for your help!

Well, in Hilo you could rent a car and drive to Volcano Nat'l Park.

From Honolulu, I'd head to the north shore.

In Noumea and Fiji we just hired a taxi and asked the driver what he suggested and spent the day with him after we'd organised a price.

Melnq8 -- Renting a car in Hilo sounds good -- thanks!

MissGreen -- That's great to hear, exactly the kind of thing we would like to do. Thanks!

In Hilo, you could also take the Hoppa-On Hoppa-Off sightseeing bus.

Google best history tours - Honolulu. There are some great ones on there. For instance, the Red Light Tourn - WWII is something you may particularly find interesting.
