Trip Report My gap year is adventure

My Gap Year is a Volunteer Adventure organisation with a strong passion for social justice, a desire to make a difference, share smiles and be involved in changing lives forever.
A lawyer turned philanthropist I am also a loving mother of six beautiful children and someone who always believed that a single person can change the world.

After a trip to Cambodia in 2011 I instantly fell in love with the beautiful people, culture and landscape of this captivating country. But what I also found was a country & its people in dire need of help. Countless orphans, poverty, malnutrition & inadequate health care were common occurrences, and left an otherwise beautiful country teeming with sadness.

My journey left me with a profound urge to help these great people who welcomed me with open arms. I felt that with a few sacrifices & a little bit of passion, I could truly make a difference to the lives of these people.

After very little deliberation I returned to Queensland Australia, sold my law firm & started MyGapYear in conjunction with a registered charity Merrin House. What started as one or two single projects has now grown to over six individual projects in Cambodia alone. Each project covers one of Cambodia's most important issues; orphans, housing, education, community work & animal conservation.

I must stress that all of this was made possible through the hard work & donations of every single one of our volunteers. With their help I have exceeded all expectations I had when I began this journey. Together our volunteers have made a true difference to this beautiful country and the lives of hundreds of children & families.
