Planning a 10-12 day trip in November. Sydney is a must. Everyone seems to love Melbourne and I am sure it is a great city with great restaurants. But great food can be found in most major cities. What makes the city of Melbourne work 3-4 days of my time??
Thanks, Cheezman

Melbourne is a fine city, but since you have already decided to visit Sydney, with only 10 - 12 days in Australia, I would chose one or possibly two other destinations--not another large Australian city--for the rest of your time in Australia.

I agree with Longhorn, the reason people visit Australia is not for the cities (don't get me wrong they are great) but they are not what is unique. Do one city only and then include one or two of the usual tourist destinations: Kakadu, Red Centre, Great Barrier Reef, Tasmania. Depending on your interests add in either a trip to the desert or the reef and surrounds (Daintree etc).

Ditto.
It is a great city with old buildings (old for us), history, zoo, trams, beaches, parks and galleries - great Australian specific gallery.
You really should get out of the cities. Although 85% of us live in towns and cities they are generally not that much different to others.

Why visit Melbourne?....
Melbourne has a 'vibe' that is unique and definately different to Sydney!! having said that, it is 'another city'. to get a 'taste' of the deversity of Australia with only 10 -12 days to do so. It would be best to visit more unique sights and take in different experiences.
Definately Tasmania is great destination - for outdoors sports/experiences as well as great food and wine destinations.
The GBR is unique in nature and is accessable from the sun tanned coast of Queensland which has diverse range of places and experiences.
Australia -is worth a return visit to take in all the sights.
just be aware of travel times between destinations. are the 10 - 12 days actual 'sightseeing' days or in total?
