Hi all,
I'll be working in Melbourne (at the Melb Conv & exh Centre) at the end of the month and will be staying at the Travelodge Docklands. I will be having dinner with my niece and her husband on my free night and was hoping for a recommendation within walking distance of my hotel? No seafood restaurants though thanks!
cheers

Anyone?? Where are my Fodor friends - are you ignoring me? Am I in Coventry?
Any of the restaurants at Crown will be within walking disance, so google that and you will have a number to choose from with different cuisines and price ranges. Personally I like No. 8. There is also the Hilton at Docklands which has Nuevo 37 and a wine/tapas bar called Sotano which is very close by but I haven't been to them myself.
Can't help with Docklands & it's a while since I've eaten around Southbank - but had a very good lunch at the Middle Brighton Baths (restaurant) on Wednesday.

It's a stellar location, great food and service to match.
There's a more casual cafe downstairs and they do a good job too.
Many of the Crown restaurants are very nice.
Perhaps not easy walking distance, but if you haven't tried Movida, the original one in Hosier Lane is fantastic, and Cumulus in Flinders Lane is another favourite.
Opposite Flinders Street Station is an Indian Restaurant called Flora. It is very good and quite cheap, but has the atmosphere of an office cafeteria. It gets quite good write ups.
It is about a 1/4 to a 1/3 the way from Swanston heading to Elizabeth St.
Hi Stormbird
Trust everything is going well for you.
Any particular specifications for the restaurant? Formal, casual, cafe/bistro style?. Cuisine type? Cost parameters?
I will throw into the mix a multipurpose rec. The Boatbuilders Yard, on the banks of the Yarra just a few steps from the west end of the Convention Centre. No bookings (but large seats 500, but delineated into a number of different spaces so doesn't feel crowded). A cafe/bar casual, no table service, food OK (nothing to write home about but acceptable).
Good for a drink and catch up. Might suit you for a pre dinner drink post work if not the dining experience you are looking for!
