Melbourne 4 Star Hotel suggestions please
We will be in Melbourne Nov 15 and are looking for a 4 star hotel with a great location. The Savoy Park Plaza was recommended but WildRedDeb thought it was not in an area near restaurants, etc. Any suggestions? We need 2 rooms (2 couples). Thanks, Jerry

Have a look at the Park Hyatt for a bit of luxury or the Sheraton Southgate if you want to be a bit nearer the action of the theatre/arts precinct, lots of restaurants and the casino complex which includes designer shops and lots more restaurants. There are footbridges over the Yarra River which will get you into the city proper in a few minutes.

The Savoy Park Plaza is in the CBD but at the more business end- its a short tram ride from the restaurant area. You could look at the Lindrum or perhaps an apartment - perhaps a 2 bedroom - at Quest on Bourke or Pacific International at 100 Exhibition St. If you'd prefer to be at Southbank try either Travelodge or the Pacific Apartments there. Quay West apts often have some good internet specials as well.

I think we would like to be nearer restaurants and shops. Recommended choices are Stamford Plaza (looks like these are suites) at $185AUD, Lindrum at $180AUD, Grand Chancellor at $129AUD. Your comments would be appreciated. Jerry

We stayed at the Sofitel (there are 2 Sofitels, ours was NOT the one by the train station). Very nice hotel, great CBD location. Our corner room was on the top floor, had about 8 or 10 floor-to-ceiling windows, great view.

The Stamford PLaza is a favorite of mine. Great location, quiet and lovely staff. The rooms are not huge - they are what I'd call a small suite, but having a kitchen and proper table make up for that. They often have internet specials as well - or I have sometimes got a good rate by phoning them.

You might want to look into the Westin which is conveniently located to shops, restaurants, theaters, museums and the river. Received exceptional service from all hotel staff and the rooms are nicely appointed.
