Matangi Island Resort

Please forgive me if this is posted twice, but I don't see my original post anymore.

My fiance and I are going to Fiji in April, 2001 and are staying at Matangi Island Resort. We are very excited about our trip, but have a few questions.

I notice that others have been very happy with the Deluxe bures, at times preferring them over the tree-top bure. Has anyone stayed in one of the two cliff-top bures yet? If so, what did you think of it?

Also, has anyone visited in April? If so, was the weather nice?

I look forward to your replies.

Vinaka!

We have not been to Matangi since 1998 and the last two you mentioned were not built then. We are among the ones who have said that we would prefer the deluxe bure to the tree-top bure. That is based on our tastes due to the deluxe bure's larger diameter and high ceiling. Also we were on the breezy end of the island. While we have gone inside the tree bure to look at it, we have not slept there. Without that it is hard to know whether it would have changed our opinion. It is best said after looking inside, we did not feel that we had missed anything. We want maximum breeze and sound of the water and enough space to have a sense of luxury. If the new ones have that they may be outsanding. It is hard to say that there is anything undesirable on Matangi. We felt the first tree bure was too closed in. It had a two level design with the lower level as a sitting area on the front side and the sleeping area a bit higher on the back side from the water.

I forgot. We have for two years been in Fiji on the 10th of May. This is a good time of the year and April will be fine. The ocean temperature should be at its peak then. It may have a triple bit more rain but showers can occur at any time. It rained mostly at night. I do not remember a rainy day for 9 days. Rain is part of the fun in the tropics.

Louis,

Thank you for your reply. We have booked the cliff-top bure for our honeymoon, so I'll be sure to let you know how it is.

On another note, I keep reading to pack light. Any suggestions on what should we pack to wear in the evenings (dinner)?

Thanks again!!

I'm new here and have a question...

I noticed that my posting doesn't appear if you narrow the postings down to Fiji alone or if you search for "Matangi". Any clue as to why? I know that I selected Fiji as the topic when I initially posted my question.
