MARGO: Treacherous TimTams Transcend Terror Tie Up!

Dear Margo,

Despite an elevated terror alert the Tim Tams got across the border. They arrived as we were packing up the house today and the originals were devoured in the course of the afternoon.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. We had other Arnott's biscuits and crackers while we were there, ; I don't know how we missed Tim Tams.

Everyone is always asking about the Cadbury Chocolate Tour. I want to know if there is a TimTam Tasting Tour.

What treat from the Southwest have you been craving. If the ports aren't shut down for the election we'll get something out after we're settled in our temporary digs.

Again Thanks, your friends Andrew and John xox

AndrewDavid,
I'm sorry that your Tim Tams have run out and in case Margo is too busy to get out some before you head into withdrawal, I wanted to let you know that you can order them online, (assuming you live in the US)

www.aussieproducts.com

I haven't actually ordered from them but that's only because I found an Aussie bakery about 25min. from my house. In addition to freshly baked Anzac cookies and Lemingtons, I can stock up on Tim Tams....do I sound like a fat pig? (Thank goodness, I don't go there often!)

Duh, how did I miss the part about you living in the SW and references to the election. I really need to get some sleep as my comprehension skills are sorely lacking...sorry!

After WW2 there was a "Bundles for Britain" scheme through which Australians sent goodies to the severely-rationed inhabitants of the Mother Country. I'm sure nobody then would have imagined that one day we'd be despatching emergency supplies to our sweets-deprived American cousins. Has GWB had that much effect on the economy, or is he just picking on notoriously left-leaning, Chardonnay-and-latte-sipping Santa Fe? Where is the blockade set up?

Hi AndrewDavid,
Amazing to learn where TimTams are sent to. Over the 5 years our daughter was living in London many "Kiwi Survival Kits" winged their way across the world containing packets of original TimTams plus the new flavours as they came out. I know other Kiwi mums have sent TimTams too. Where did you do a Cadbury Chocolate tour?
Have I missed a posting telling us that you are on the move? Life at school has been hectic since we got back from Queensland 3 weeks ago (was it only 3 weeks - seems like 3 years!) and I have not had the time to be able to get on each night as I like to do. I am staggered at how many new postings there have been in the last 10 days! Is it always like this?
"Happy" elections!!

Do I have a personal problem? I don't actually get the "tim tam" thing. I find them a but sickly.

However I do love honey jumbles

Ok, I just have to know!! I've heard of TimTams, but don't know what they are? From what everyone is writing about, I'm quite sure I'll become addicted . Oh, but I'm only going to NZ. Are they available there too?
My mouth is watering and I don't even know what they are yet!!
BUt the Cadbury's tour in Dunedin is on my list of must do's.

Jane - will you please stop doing this - you've already MADE me eat a Herbert
Adams pepper steak pie for lunch, which was quite yummy and now you're on about honey jumbles. I can't afford the calories! Mind you - I love those Arnotts chocy bikkies with the mint filling.

ooooh yum Herbert Adam pepper steak pie.

just had a Homer Simpson moment ! lol

Kodi

Tim Tam is a chocolate biscuit (cookie?) They bring out some variation in flavour, like caramel etc. Sometimes they have special edition flavours.

They are very rich and they say to suck your coffee through the biscuit like a straw but when I tried it, it fell in a lump mass inside my coffee cup.

Actually a good souvenir of Australia would be the old fashioned Arnotts biscuit tin. Even though an American company actually owns Arnotts now we can all still pretend it is still Aussie!

arnotts biscuit site (aka cookie site)

To the future NZ visitors.

You certaily can get Tim Tams here. Be careful not to OD on them though as they are incredibly rich. (Chocolate biscuit with chocolate filling covered in chocolate) great Aussie invention. (Now thats praise coming from a Kiwi).

Many different varieties available but no matter what new flavours they bring out (Including the "alcoholic" ones) the good old originals are best.

Oh, no, have I missed something else really yummy? Where do you get Herbert Adams peeper steak pies, and who makes honey jumbles, Please? Could just about be enough to get me across the Tasman again!! I just love the Arnott's snack right bars which we cannot get here in NZ, and I forgot to buy several boxes before we left. Boo hoo! I know what you mean about the extra calories, Pat. I have a very very very slight problem in that area.
kodi, the Cadbury tour in Dunedin is great. I'm not sure when you are in Dunedin but I would strongly recommend you book as soon as you get to Dunedin as it is a very popular tour. I was surprised when I rang to learn there were no vacancies for 3 days! In fact, it might almost pay you to book ahead so you don't miss out. Enjoy it - I spent a fortune in the shop afterwards, buying our daughter's favourite bars to send to her in London, which was a good place to buy them as you get a discount if you go on the tour. I must confess some of them did not make it back to Wellington two weeks later!!
Jane, I am with you - I find TimTams very sickly - give me an Arnott's mint slice anytime!
Cheers, everyone.

Hi dotty - Herbert Adams pies available in just about any supermarket freezer. You do need an oven though - they take about 40 minutes to heat through.

Meat pies from the pie vans you see all over Queensland are also quite delicious - one would imagine hot pies wouldn't so appealling in the climate, but not so. Mocka's pie shop in Port Douglas is famous, and Manning's pies (pievans) in North Qld are good, too.

Next time you're here go to Rusty's market in Cairns - someone has invested in a sugar cane crusher and while you wait, he makes the most refreshing cane juice with ice and fresh lime. Just glorious on a hot day.

Hi, Pat,
Will certainly go to Rusty's next September when we are over. I tried to get there this time but other things overtook my plans. Not quite sure how we will be able to heat the pies but will sort something out. Ted just LOVES pies so will want to try them.

Sorry for butting in on this post but I had to comment.

This was one of the first posts I read when I first ventured over to the Oz/NZ board. . . and I was intrigued by the Tim Tams.

I asked my Sydneysider friend about them. . .

Today a huge package arrived of my early Chrissy present. . . 2 packages of Tim Tams, "Polly Waffle" and "Chokito" chocolate bars, Pods (she said they were new-- SO GOOD!) and warm Uggs for my Minnesota winters.

My favorite of all is the Tim Tams.
