My fiancee and I are planning on getting married in Fiji next June and are looking at Islands that are large enough that we have lots to do as well as relax. Neither of us like the idea of a smaller island that we can walk around in 10 minutes. Anyone have any thoughts on either of these resorts. We will be diving the second week at Marlin Bay Resort.
Malolo or Mana Island

Definitely do not pick Malolo if you don't want the typical Fijian experience of being on a small island. There's no place to so except the resort and one village. There is lots to do at resort - sailing, wind surfing, diving, snorkeling, parasailing, etc. We were at Mana and it seemed bigger. We absolutely loved Malolo, however, and would go back in a heartbeat. Have you thought about Dive Kadavu. We dived there a year ago for a week and absolutely loved the people and the resort! Good luck. It's remote, but absolutely charming.
Thanks for the information! How were the beaches around the resort? Also, there's not too much information on the Bure's, what did you think? Is there really a need to get the "Deluxe" ocean view instead of the standard ocean view?
Thanks again for your comments, they are truly appreciated!
We loved Malolo. Stayed there in March 2001 for 5 days.
It is large enough to have good ammenities, but small enough that the staff will get to know you. The beach right in front of the resort has fairly coarse sand, and you can snorkel right there. (this tells you that there is coral in the water, not a sandy bottom) From the resort you can do a hike over the mountain to another bay with a beautiful beach, or you can walk around the point a low tide. There are a number of day trips you can take as well. The difference between the ocean view bures and the Deluxe ov bures, the the bedroom area. The Deluxe ones have a separate bedroom, where the others have the bed in the same room as the living room. It is in a L shape. Both are the same distance from the water. It is not far no matter where you are.
Mana is a larger resort, that is owned by a japanese company, and so most of the tourists from the orient tend to stay there. I have heard it is getting run down, and from what I saw of it when the catamaran stopped there I would agree. It looked somewhat shabby. (this was 2 years ago so that may have changed)
