Looking for private, unspoiled beaches in French Polynesia

Has anyone stayed at or know of any private islands resorts or private beach resorts? Looking for remote, unspoiled areas - no large resorts such as Hotel Bora Bora. Something nice but don't need the night life - prefer pristine quiet beaches and undeveloped areas. Something similar to Petit St. Vincent in the Grenadines. Any suggestions? Thanks!

In the Society Islands, there are several small hotels on Tahaa and Raitea (between Bora Bora and Tahiti). Both these islands share a large lagoon and are enough off the beaten track to be much less visited and less developed. Another alternative would be to head over to the Tuamotu Archipelago, northeast of the Society Islands. We really like Rangiro, the largest atoll in the Tuamotus. You can stay in a small family-run pension, or stay in several nice resorts - all located in one of the largest lagoons in the world (you cannot see the other side!).

Does it have to be French Polynesia? You are describing so many resorts in Fiji, which is why we migrated there from vacationing in FP. Or look at Coconuts Beach Club in Samoa, definately off the beaten path. The Marquesas are part of FP but the resorts are typically hillside wiyh black sand beaches. I also loved PSV but Fiji has surpassed it. No resort I have stayed at has over 18 couples, i.e. Vatulele, Turtle, Namale. These are expensive but there are other resorts more reasonably priced. This April we'll check out Cayo Espanto, off the Belize coast. Remote, private islands or accommodations are my passion, so share if you find something interesting!

Thanks for the help. After much homework, we will reserve FP and Fiji for a much longer trip in the near future. For this summer we will look for private islands/resorts in the carribean so we don't waste too much of our vacation time traveling. Thanks again!

Can any one recommend a pension on Rangiroa? We know about the Kia Ora Village and Sauvage. We are looking to save some money when we stay at Rangiroa. Thanks.
