We getting married in October and are considering spending several days at one of these place. We're looking for beautiful beaches/snorkling, luxurious accomodations, great service and food. Can anyone recommend one over the other? I understand Lizard Island just went through a major upgrade - has anyone been there since? thanks!

I've been to Hayman and it really is sensational. It certainly fits the bill (according to your email) and I've not heard of anyone suggesting that it does not live up to its very high profile. <BR> <BR>Tanya

Hi, <BR> <BR>I hope I can be of some help - we are getting married in September of 2002, and have changed our plans a million times between destinations and accomodations. We are leaning toward including a stay at Hayman Island as part of an Australian honeymoon. <BR> <BR>I have done a TON of research, spoken to people that have been to these resorts, and find that Hayman tends to come up as the best overall choice for a luxurious honeymoon getaway, with excellent food, and true five-star accomodations. Also, the amount of activities is vast and varied, something that is important to us as well. <BR> <BR>I have a great deal of info. on all of the Whitsundays, so feel free to e-mail me if you have more specific questions. <BR> <BR>I have been working with an Australian specialist travel agent as well, but find I can get cheaper prices on my own, and do not have to feel pressured to get the trip booked soon. <BR> <BR>We still have not decided however, if we are definitely choosing Australia as our destination. <BR> <BR>I am torn between two weeks in Sydney, Melbourne (Great Ocean Road), and Hayman Island, or doing two weeks in Bora Bora and Hawaii (I wish all my decisions could be this trivial!). <BR> <BR>If anyone has any recommendations, suggestions, or comments (ie. would you choose one spot over the other), I would so appreciate anyone else's help as well! <BR> <BR>Thank You!

I am going on my honeymoon Sept. 2001. 100% on Hayman and Sydney, but am up in the air about the third destination. We are thinking about Port Douglas, but haven't heard great things. Recently a client from Sydney said that you must do the 3 Rs: Reef, Rock and Rainforest. Due to time constraints, the Rock is out of the question, any advice on where to stay in the Rainforest (keeping in mind that we are coming from Hayman and it is the Honeymoon).<BR>Thanks.

Planning a trip in Nov. and have heard good things about Port Douglas. We'll be there one night, then off to Daintree/Cape Trib. Two places that sound awesome are: Silky Oaks Lodge and Daintree Eco Lodge &amp; Spa (www.daintree-ecolodge.com.au) looks appealing. Maybe someone who's actually been there could offer info.<BR>Have fun!

I spent 4 nights on Lizard Island in November and hated to have to leave. I've not been to Hayman, so can't compare them but I can tell you that Lizard was wonderful. Just the one small resort on the island, so it is very quiet and intimate. I can't think of a better place to honeymoon because you can take a dinghy out and find your own private beach. Not a lot to do here--you have to love beaches, snorkeling or diving, although there are a couple of hikes you can take over the island. <BR> Staff was great, food was excellent, and the snorkeling was awesome!

We stayed at Silky Oaks in June and they were in the middle of renovations of the grounds and some of the cabins (of course our travel agent failed to mention this to us!) In any case, it's probably a good thing they are renovating because the rooms were a bit shabby and the resort was in need of a minor face-lift. I think they were going to be finished in Sept, so if you go make sure you book into a refurbished cabin. The resort in general is nice -- lots of rainforest activities and guided walks and the tour they booked for us of the Daintree river and Cape Tribulation was excellent. The restaurant was also quite good with really lovely views of the gorge below.
