Kauri forest

Is there a way to visit the kauri trees as a day trip from Auckland by bus or a tour? Thank you!

YES.

Don't be lazy. Do your own research.

Type "waipoua forest day trips auckland" into your search engine, just like I did, to find your answer.

You've been on this forum for nine years! NINE YEARS! Shame on you.

I'll give you a another hint - $250

Thank you so much, Peter! I am wearing a Holter heart moniter at this moment. Hope it didn't burn up when I read your post!

I had spent several hours looking for info on this trip to the trees before I asked for help. My husband really wants to see them. Now twice in two weeks I have had episodes of tachycardia, plus I fainted once, but I am determined to take this trip to Australia & New Zealand in September.

Rather than doing a tour have you thought of hiring a car with a driver? They are often not much more than a tour but give you much more freedom to do what you want at the speed you want.

The first one apears to be only driver but at $50 and hour + a cheapish car hire you are looking at about the same price as the tour but not as long.

The second one is per day depending on distance.

The other don't have prices.

It all depends on whether you just want to go to the forest or want to do the whole Bay of Islands deal.

I would still recommend doing it by car with a driver. The freedom is just so much better than a tour. Stay as long as you like. Go home when you like.

Have you considered making it an overnight trip? It is a three hour drive each way.

There are plenty more. Have a chat to a travel agent. They should be able to book you one. There should be information at the Airport when you arrive.

Have a great trip.

The Waipoua Forest is beautiful and was a highlight of one of our visits to Northland, but it is far from Auckland (though the day tours peterSale suggested sounds like they could possibly work out for you).

How many kauri would your husband like to see? Also, I hope your medication allows you to take short walks despite your tachycardia and syncope--because I did a search and found the below links of places where you may see one or a few kauris in or close to Auckland, however, some walking is required. (By the way, I heartily agree that Internet searches can be difficult and elusive).

The Auckland Botanic Garden supposedly has a kauri tree grove. You should contact them to see if this is so:

Though I have been to Auckland many times, I am personally not familiar with the following parks, but apparently they all have kauris.

Three Streams Arboretum seems to have a kauri grove:

Cornwall Park:

Peter and Diamantina,

Thanks so much for all of your information! We will be in Auckland only 3 nights at the end of our visit to Australia & New Zealand after arriving from Rotorua around noon. So, we probably would not want to go all the way to the Bay of Islands. I will look into the options that are closer to Auckland.

Wednesday I have an appointment with a cardiologist, and I feel fine now.

Thank you!

When you are in Rotorua be sure to visit Waimangu Valley - one of the most magical places in the world.
