Just back from yet another wonderful trip to the SI of NZ

Jump to last reply

We're fresh off the plane from yet another wonderful trip to the SI of NZ. It's been more than three long years since our last visit and we'd sorely missed the place.

Despite the ash cloud, our flights weren't affected. Our much researched accommodation was outstanding, the weather was surprisingly cooperative, the hikes were well worth the mud, sheep poop and sore muscles and the majority of the food was good.

I'll be posting a detailed trip report complete with photos and accommodation reviews over the upcoming weeks, but here's a preview:

Flights: Perth-Auckland-Christchurch and return, Air NZ

Car rental: APEX - 2006 Toyota Corolla (worked like a champ)

Geraldine - one night - Victoria Villa B&B
Glenorchy - three nights - Precipice Creek Station B&B
Wanaka - three nights - Apline View Lodge
Franz Josef - two nights - Glen Fern Villas
Arthur's Pass - two nights - Mountain House Cottage
Hope, Nelson - three nights - Milcrest Estate B&B
Takaka - three nights - Ashlea Downs Cottage
Watamonga (Picton area) - three nights - Whatamonga Homestay
Waipara Valley - two nights - Dunnolly Cottage

We met some lovely Kiwis and had a great time. Stay tuned.
