.Jervis Bay area

Hi traveling to Australia from Ireland for 3 weeks on 16 Feb 2012. Going to spend first week in Sydney visiting our daughters. Then hoping to drive to the Jervis Bay area for a week. Has anyone any suggestions of which town to base ourselves in to explore the area. We love beaches! We will have a car . Thinking of Hyams Beach or Huskisson. Hoping to rent a house or apartment here. What will weather be like the last week Feb? Would we require air conditioning? Are there nice places to visit in this area? Also has anyone any sugestions of somewhere we could visit befor returning to Sydney for about 2 or 3 days before flying home. I realise that we are seeing very little of Australia but it is really a trip to see our family and relax a bit . I feel it is too short a trip to fit any more in . Thanks.

Hyam's Beach would be my pick around the south end of Jervis Bay. It isn't a surf beach however if that's what you were looking for.

Culburra is on the north end of Jervis Bay and is a surf beach.

February can be very hot but there's usually a breeze near the sea, I don't think air-conditioning is necessary.

There are some bush walks in the area, other than that and the beach there is not a lot to see or do.

The Blue Mountains west of Sydney might be a good option for the two or three days prior to leaving. There are lots of walks there and very dramatic lookouts over the ranges.

Huskisson & Hyams are only a few minutes' drive apart, so either would be fine to stay. Last time I was down there, there were more shops, cafes etc., around Huskisson. Lots of accommodation options on Stayz http://www.stayz.com.au/accommodation/nsw/south-
coast/huskisson

If you like Susan7's idea of a couple of days in the Blue Mountains, I'd recommend you go out through Berry, Bowral & the Southern Highlands, skirting Sydney, and take the M4 to the Blue Mountains. http://g.co/maps/8kkvr

For a preview of the drive - hit the "3D" icon at the beginning of the Directions on the link. If Google maps is working properly, it's a great facility.

Hyams Beach, Huskisson, or anywhere on the south coast would be great at that time of year - there's a heap to see and do.

Lady Denman Museum in Huskisson: http://www.ladydenman.asn.au/,
whale and dolphin trips, Mogo Zoo (further south), great wildlife at Greenpatch (or there was when I was there), plenty of bush walks, and, of course, beautiful beaches. There's an old lighthouse at Boodaree National Park: http://www.environment.gov.au/parks/booderee/ as well as Botanic Gardens. Check the website.

Have lunch at the Husky Pub and watch the world go by.

I couldn't think of a better place.
