Jervis Bay--Where to Stay?
Hi everyone,
it's incredibly short notice, but we're going to OZ! We'd like to be in Jervis Bay from 1/29-2/1. I know it's high season, and late to be booking, but please please share any of your rec's. My hubby and I are in our early 30s and want an affordable B&B ($100USD and under)..any chance of that? We just want to unwind, kayak, lay on the beach and sleep.
Also, would you rec'd we rent a car from Sydney for our trip? We will fly out from Syd to Cairns on 2/2. Thank you so much!

Hi Tulip,
This link might help:
www.jervis-bay-nsw.com.au
Sorry, can't make any recommendations as we have friends at Vincentia & stay with them
I'd definitely rent a car - Bayswater is great - very cheap and only $200 excess (No CDW). http://www.bayswatercarrental.com.au/
Not sure if they have an outlet at the airport, but if not, it's worth the trip in to William Street. And, from there very easy access to the Eastern Distributor & M5 for the trip South.
Enjoy your trip - it's a fantastic time to visit, and as it's at the end of the public school holidays, your accommodation options might be better than you think; especially in B & B's.

Thank you Bokhara!
I too, am so relieved that we are going after the holiday! And how nice that you have friends in Vincentia..we always joke in california--it's best to make strategically located friends!
Were there any particular beaches that were your fave in the Jervis Bay area? And if we bring our snorkel gear, is it easy to wade out along reefs, or is it something we should hire a boat for. We'll be snorkeling at GBR too, but we can't seem to get enough of it!

I was down at Jervis Bay a couple of weeks ago - it's a beautiful place. Unfortunately, I don't have friends there - do your mates want to meet me, Bokhara?
The whole place is lovely, and not too many people - although it may be a tad busy at the time you're there. I presume you mean 29 January to 1 February. (Your dates 1/29-2/1 are not written that way here!) I was a bit disappointed at Greenpatch - when I was there previously I was mobbed by kangaroos and brightly coloured parrots. I saw no roos and only a couple of birds when I was there - but it was peak time - between Christmas and New Year.
There was an interesting ruin of a lighthouse a bit to the south, but still within Booderee National Park.
Watch out for an overzealous ranger - we had paid park entry, but there was nothing to show that you had to display your ticket. We got pinged for not having a ticket - upset my partner no end. We went back to the ranger station - checked everywhere - absolutely nothing about pay and display - but.....
I don't know about snorkelling - probably just off the beach.
You'll probably need a car - I don't think there's much public transport around that area. If you're nervous about driving on the left in the city - perhaps you could pick up a rental car at Wollongong, to the south. Then you can just drive further south.
You're talking about my favourite part of the Oz world here

Hi Margo,
Thanks for the ranger heads up. Of course in SF, we pay about $40 USD for a parking ticket. WINCE. Would not want to experience that on holiday!
I have a couple of choices for Jervis accommodations. We will get a car. Can you please help me choose? Prices are for 4 nights. They're all the same level of ammenities. We'd like to be close to a nice beach, quiet beach. I hear Collingswood is nice, as well as Hyams? We'd wake up, head to beach, laze about. Head to the market, eat, sleep. Repeat.
1) Sanctuary Pt --$400 aud
2)Huchinsson---$460 aud
3)Plantation Pt--$560 aud, has view
4) Huchinsson--JB Caravan Park---$320 aud--most budget.
also, can u please share if you kayaked at Jervis, and if u think it was worth it?

We had lunch at the Husky Pub!
I haven't kayaked - so can't comment.
Don't know any of the accommodation - I think Sanctuary Point is south of Jervis Bay. Plantation Point - don't even know where it is!
