Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort or another dive resort?

We are in the process of planning a family dive trip and are considering the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

We have previously stayed at Castaway Island Resort twice, Treasure Island Resort, Plantation Island Resort and Malolo. We are looking for something a bit nicer in a different area of Fiji. Our priority is a great dive operation, though.

Thanks for any help!

Matangi resort is highly regarded and we spent a wonderful 5 days at Marlin Bay resort on the Beqa lagoon a few years ago. Both are primarily designed for divers.

Thanks maryk. I have been looking at Marlin Bay, also. Matangi is too small for us. My boys, ages 12 and 14, need more activity and other kids their ages to hang with. We have been to Castaway our last two trips because of this and both my boys still stay in contact with some of the friends they have met over the last few years. I haven't been able to get any pricing on Marlin Bay. Do you recall the cost? Was the diving reasonalby priced?

Thanks for your suggestion!

We were just at Cousteau 3 weeks ago and absolutely loved it. It's a very happy place and the accommodations, food, staff and grounds are excellent. The diving was SUBLIME. They have a great dive staff, a nice dive boat and a resident marine biologists. I think you and your family would have a wonderful time if you went to Cousteau. When you arrive they greet you with a big "Bula" and say "welcome home" By the time you leave, you really do feel like it's "home". I'd go back in heartbeat.

Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like any further info.

If you're taking 12 & 14 year olds, I'd recommend Cousteau. Marlin Bay, while great, is small and VERY dive orientated. I can't remember the cost of the diving or the resort - but it was around the same as Castaway and the diving cost was about the same as everywhere else. We went because my husband wanted to dive Beqa. I was the only non diver on the island. There weren't any other activities offered - but this may have changed since we were there (about 5 years ago). The dive boat used to leave by 9am ish, return just in time for lunch and then go again at around 3 returning around 5.30.

thanks for the info. I am definitely leaning towards Cousteau. It's quite a bit more expensive than Castaway, though. Is there a big difference between the two resorts in respect to accomodations and food?

Does anyone know if there are other things to do besides dive? We are looking for a honeymoon site w/but not limited to diving. Thanks!
