Is our 4.5 day Tasmania itinerary realistic?

Jump to last reply

I'm well aware 4-5 days is barely enough to scratch the surface of Tasmania, but I could use some advice on whether we are cramming too much in or not enough. We still have a lot of holes to fill and will be there in about a month (mid October).

Two twenty-something friends (guy and girl) trying to experience some Tasmanian wilderness and culture.

(Day 1) Landing Mon. Oct 12th at 1PM. We were supposed to land much earlier but Virgin Blue just changed their flight schedule on us. Disappointing. We are hoping we can spend a few daytime hours at Port Arthur and then do the ghost tour at night. I'd really like to go into Tasman Nat'l Park but that no longer seems realistic. Would we be missing out if we only did the Port Arthur ghost tour?

Considering driving back from ghost tour to Hobart to get a head start on tomorrow and give us some time in city.

(Day 2) Breakfast in Hobart (recommendations?) and off to Tahune Air Walk. if we got there upon opening and stayed through early afternoon, is that enough time? We'd like to make it to Strahan by end of day today, and that seems really aggressive. After Tahune, we'd have lunch, start driving, and stop at Mt. Field in late afternoon. Then, maybe a dinner stop at Derwent Bridge before getting to Strahan at night.

(Day 3) Breakfast and morning in Strahan (again, recommendations?), then drive to Cradle Mountain. Spend rest of afternoon, evening, night exploring that area.

(Day 4) We'd like to visit Penguin. But can we fit in Burnie and Devonport as well? Debating on staying in one of those areas or going straight to Launceston for the night?

(Day 5) We fly back to Sydney at 5PM, but would like to spend the rest of the time in Launceston. Maybe we spread out our trip more and do Day 4 activities/locations here instead and spend less time in Launceston?

Sorry for the insane amount of questions, but any little help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
