My fiance and I are thinking of honeymooning in Bali in September. I was advised that due to the uncertain politcal situation it might not be a good time to visit. Any advice from people recently in Bali? I hear it is a wonderful and beautiful place - any ideas on where to stay?
Is Bali safe?

The resorts at Nusa Dua are a good place to honeymoon. Luxury, no hassels. but only 20min from Kuta when you want to go there. Sorry, don't know what its been like there lately
kc,
Was in Indonesia last year at this time shortly after the riots, etc. Did a one week stay on Bali, including Kuta (be sure to visit Ubud, too). Please be assured that all Indonesians, from the government to the army, to the opposition, realize the value of Bali and tourism to the country.
The only remotely potential source of conflict on the island would be on the far west and northwest sections of the island (Nusa Dura is South), where Hindu comes in contact with Islam. (had a Hindu driver who was reluctant to travel there).
The island is beautiful and the people are wonderful (although intense marketers in Kuta). Keith
My Boyfriend and I went in April 99 and had a wonderful time. The election was coming up in June and the locals were happy to tell us about their political views and about the political situation going on. We stayed at the Meridien at Tanah Lot for our first three nights then rented a Jeep and went "everywhere". We got a room in Tirtha Gangha for around $8 US breakfast included, it overlooked the rice terraces. We stayed in a bungalow on the beach in Amed at Good Karma for $20US/nt. Amed is hard to get to-the only draw back. Then we hiked Mt. Batur and stayed in Hot Spirngs village-nothing fancy here. But, to see the sunrise from atop of the Volcano is glorious. We then headed back down to the Meridien for our last two nights. We needed a little pampering after running all over the island in three days. At the resorts expect to pay normal US rates on food/beverage. The Meridien was absolutely wonderful. Bali is fabulous and we were fortunate to meet many locals. Kuta is hell on Earth and Ubud is very nice. Good luck on finding the perfect place for your honeymoon.
