how to get to Bora Bora

I've read that one needs to take either a small plane or a boat from the airport to get to Bora Bora. Is that true? Forget the small plane. What's the boat like? Any other options?

Here's a link that may be useful:

http://www.boraboraisland.com/gethere.html

We'll be stopping there as part of our cruise in April, 2013. I'll be doing a trip report afterwards.

We flew. Sounds like the boat option is not a very good one. Yes, the plane is small, but the flight is short. The views out the window are awesome!!

Thanks. I was hoping for a ferry but didn't see one when I looked at the link (honestly I have no idea how far it is from Papette to Bora Bora.

Admittedly, we're chicken. We don't fly small plane. Not worth it if we are nervous whole time about flight back. Takes the fun out of it. Again...maybe a ferry?

It's a prop plane (or it was when I flew in 04), but it isn't like a 7-10 seater. It is bigger than that!!

About 140 miles (230 km) from Papeete to Bora Bora- a pretty long boat ride up to 7 hrs. The island of Moorea is much closer. Consider that instead if you don't want to fly?
