Hi all! My fiance and I are beginning to plan our honeymoon which will take place in October of 2011. We are looking for the ultimate honeymoon...relaxation, swimming, snorkel, some sightseeing, amazing views and good food. We both have never been to the South Pacific and do not know much about it but it is on our list of possible honeymoon destinations. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Places to stay? which island to visit? What to do? etc etc etc.....We will be coming from the East coast so it will be quite the flight, but Im sure well worth it if we decide to head here.

We took a Tahiti cruise 2 years ago and it was fabulous. In 10
days we saw 6 islands and enjoyed every one of them. We have been on just about every Caribbean island, which are great, but these islands are even better. Bora Bora is fabulous for a honeymoon but so is Moorea (right across the channel from Tahiti). We stayed at the Intercontinental in Tahiti which was lovely, but it doesn't really have a beach. It has a nice logoon to snorkel in. All the islands have hotels with over-the-water bungalows, but some of them don't have any fish to watch through the glass floor. So check before you pay $700 a night. Eating is very, very expensive, so a cruise is really a bargain. Getting there is a bit of a nightmare. Flights are very limited. Princess scheduled a flight from Chicago to LA with a stop in Denver. Of course we were late and missed the connection in Denver. We couldn't get out of Denver and missed both of the Air Tahiti Nui flights to Tahiti. We wound up buying another set of tickets on Air France in order to catch the ship. So watch out for that coming from the East Coast. Plan for a delay. What you need is a good travel agent who has been there. If you do take a cruise, you may want to book the air through them, but get the schedule first. They are NOT responsible if the flight is delayed. They don't care if you ever get there. Go a day early just to be save and stay at a cheaper hotel for one night. It's really worth it not to ruin an expensive trip. We are planning to go again in the near futre. Good luck.
Thank you everyone! I will be starting to look into all this...Would you all recommend a cruise around or actually staying at a resort for a honeymoon? We have done caribbean cruises as well and love the cruise but we are also looking for the escape of a honeymoon. What do you all think?? Thanks!!

While Pat allued to the expensive food in this part of the world, the accommodation isn't inexpensive either -- I think your budget for this trip needs to addressed FIRST, before you start trying to compare a cruise vs. land based/resort honeymoon, as that's a huge factor and may very likely eliminate a number of options.
I often get couples who are dazzled with the thought of those ultra-romantic sounding over the water bungalows - until they find out that they start at $500-$600 per night...
As this is your honeymoon, I'm assuming you're going to be involved in wedding planning and all that entails (and there's ALWAYS more $$$ needed than you planned for). Coming from the East Coast, you're going to have a forced layover in LAX prior to your So Pac flights, and very likely on the way back as well, so extra expense and time involved there as well.
