Hi,
I'm been pouring over this site's postings and the two guidebooks I got at a local bookstore....and I'm afraid the more I read, the more I can't decide on where to stay.
We'll be in Sydney from Sep 5 to the 10th. (Splitting up the trip between Sydney and Cairns thanks to the great response from this site). So far, I've reserved a room at the Radisson Suite that can be cancelled with no penalty so at least we will have a room to stay if I can't find anything else.

According to the hotel manager, the York will be undergoing their phase two of the renovation during that time...so the York is out. Old Sydney Holiday Inn and Travelodge have no vacancies. Ideally, we'd like a serviced apartment so we can make some of the meals and I won't feel bad when my 3 year old breaks out with her rendition of the ABC's loudly in the middle of dinner plus leaves half her food on the floor. A laudry facility will also be good so we can pack less (leaving room for souvenirs)and wash our clothes. However, I also see some hotels for lesser price and I'm thinking that might be a better bargain.

So...I need help. We'd like to definitely take advantage of the ferries, go to blue mountains and other wonderful sites of Sydney and nearby area. I got qoutes back from Seville Bond Street, Meriton World Tower Apartment, Medina Exe Sydney Central, and Central Park Hotel, all are within our range (max of $200 USD/night).Anythoughts on which one to pick?

Have a look at wotif.com.au - and see what they offer. It's a last minute site, but the same places are usually there. I'm not sure the going rate for an apartment (I'm always amazed at how expensive Sydney hotels are!), but at least you'll get some ideas.

Failing that - the Radisson it is.

i haven't stayed in any of them, but I think for location with a kiddie, central park is good, given it's a very short skip to hyde park.

medina central is good for transport, but probably not is a nice location as the others.

Have a look at Harbourside Apartments www.harboursideapartments.com one of the best and most spectacular locations in Sydney. Ferry right outside the door, lots of restaurants in Nth. Sydney if you don't want to cook and should be about your price range.

Better add .au to the harbourside apts. URL or you won't go there. Plus most of the links are dead. That being said, it looks extremely attractive! I'd love to know their rates and room configurations.

We have stayed there several times and can recommend the place. Apartment sizes vary and the prices are on the website.Around the $A300 -$A350 p.n. depending on the season and really not too bad for Sydney. Situated at McMahon's Point, the ferry to Circular Quay is right outside the front entrance. The Nth.Sydney train station to Wynyard (city centre) is a short walk up the hill or else you can walk up through Lavendar Bay (a beautiful spot)to the pedestrian walk across the Bridge to Circular Quay. The views are spectacular with apartments looking out onto the Bridge and the Opera House or the Blues Point Towers area and other aspects of the Harbour. Sails restaurant is on the property and probably has the best restaurant view in Sydney except perhaps for Doyles at Watsons Bay. Anway it is easy to catch the ferry across to the Rocks for a meal and return for a nice harbour trip.
