In Cairns, be sure to take Skyrail <http://www.skyrail.com.au/> to Kuranda. After you stroll through town, spend a little time at Rainforestation <http://www.rainforest.com.au/>. It's somewhat touristy, but still a lot of fun. On the way back, take the Kuranda Scenic railway. You can probably find a package that covers all of the above.
Tony's Tropical Tours <http://www.tropicaltours.com.au/> does a good job showing you the Daintree River/Cape Tribulation areas.
You can get lots of ideas and information about Cairns from <http://www.cairns.aust.com/> and about tropical north Queensland from <http://www.tropicalaustralia.com.au/>.
Thank you for the links I am looking in to this and keep the tips comming, I can use any advice i can

Kuranda train is out of action for at least another 2 months - heavy rain in Feb caused landslide over line. It'll take time before safeguards are put in place to prevent further rock falls onto railway line. Return Skyrail is available at moment but with Skyrail closed for maintenance from 2 weeks from 5th-19th May, and strong possibility of train still out of action in May, Kuranda traders will be feeling the pinch when the only access to Kuranda will be by road.
