Gluten Free Down Under

Hello There:

We have had good luck in North America and Europe when we want to purchase Gluten Free products. They may not be at the "corner grocery." Yet, they are available. Can you tell me if I will find them in NZ & OZ? If so, do you have any tips on where to buy them. Thanks so much.

Plenty of places to get Gluten free in NZ - but the selection is not as wide as say in London.

The smaller chain supermarkets tend to have a section i.e. New World. I think you can get rice bread here usually. (my sister is gluten, dairy and sugar free so you get to know these things).

Otherwise Health food stores.

You probably will struggle to find anything in small towns in NZ but then you can generally get so much great fresh foods in small towns that you won't miss the carbs!

If you specify the cities you will be in then perhaps we can suggest specific stores.

There are sveral places to purchase Gluten Free products in Australia. The major supermarket chains i.e Coles, Safeway, Woolworths stock many GF lines including bread, museli, frozen food, pasta etc.etc. You should have no problems.

Also a few cafes are starting to make and advertise on their menu boards gluten free and other special diet foods. eg. I tried a gluten free banana muffin at a cafe yesterday, very nice!

Thanks everyone,

Yes, there are a lot of yummy Gluten Free (GF) products. My joke is that a person could eat their way to a heart attack with GF. So, I try to have a few sensible items and not over do it. That is nice of you "Pat Woolford" to make recomendations on GF in Cairns. Actually, we haven't made that booking yet. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. We realize that we may have rain, so we'd like to be able to do "other" things if the rain prevents the sight seeing. Thanks again,
