FPolynesia or Caribbean for HMoon in late October

Good Evening! I came across this message board and am so thrilled-thank heavens for Fodors! I am at a complete loss and could use some input on a location for our honeymoon in October, we are considering St Thomas-the Ritz Carlton or Bora Bora for our honeymoon. I am really concerned about weather though, I would be SO unhappy if it rained on us the entire time. We love Hawaii but it's a "been there done that" feel for us so we want something new, ideally an island with warm beaches that we can get pampered and dotted on, we both are road warriors for work so we are really particular about service and quality of rooms, properties, etc. We love to lay on the beach, but also water sports and maybe outdoor activities/excursions would be fun too. Can anyone help a lost soon to be Mrs. make a decision as to what part of the world to go to-I have never been to either and am absolutely lost here!!! LOL! Thank you for your input and help, it is greatly appreciate! Have a beautiful day!

I have to say I'd choose French Polynesia over the Caribbean but I'm not sure where you're from. Assuming you're from N.A., you can always score a great deal on an awesome, relaxing all-inclusive vacation in the Caribbean without having to spend as much as you would staying at the Ritz (if you chose to of course) but if the cost is similar to F.P. I'd say go to Moorea or Bora Bora...it's a little more exotic and you'll probably be less likely to travel there again. You could always go to the Dominican or another Caribbean island for an anniversary as it'd be more affordable and closer (again, assuming the above is true).

That's just my 2 cents (and by the way, I'm a little biased because we are off to Moorea for our honeymoon next month!)

I too am looking at a honeymoon in Bora Bora or Moorea. We actually live in Cozumel, Mexico so we want something totally different from "home", but still want the tropical atmosphere. Did you do your researching via internet? And if, so...would you mind posting a few good sites for us to check out? We aren't much for the packaged tourist fare, since we deal with tourists here everyday. All the info I have found online are for 5 day package deals, we would like to stay longer and customize our trip. Any suggestions would be helpful. Congrats to you too! Have a great time!

Congratulations! As for a suggestion consider Fiji. The weather then should be pretty good and if money is no object you will save a ton going to Fiji. We were there in Aug. 2001 and it was the best vacation we have ever had. The place is gorgeous and the people are very friendly. The dollar is way stronger there too. In FP the $35.00 breakfast and the $25.00 hamburger are real. In Fiji the 3 of us ate out at nice restaurants for about $50.00 total. Of course the dollar was stronger then but still it is pretty good.

CozAnnie,

Cozumel eh? Not a bad place to live I imagine!
We booked with Sunspots (www.sunspotsintl.com). We generally do not vacation using package deals but after a lot of research we found that they had the most reasonable prices. We are going to Moorea for 6 nts. and then we're off to New Zealand for 7 nts. They are very good about customizing trips. We only booked the flights and the hotel stay in Moorea and the rest we're just going to wing. The only issue you might have is that (I believe) Sunspots books out of LA only (we booked the connecting flight ourselves).
Also, check out www.airtahiti.com.

Good Luck and Congrats to you too!
