For those planning a trip to Fiji...

I recently booked a trip to Fiji for next year and wanted to pass on a few things helped me.

I purchased the Moon Handbooks "South Pacific", written by David Stanley. It is a great resource! I knew virtually nothing about Fiji when I bought it last year and it really helped me get a feel for Fiji and what area to visit. I can't recommend it enough. I am beginning to explore possibilties in the Solomon Islands and it is a great resource for that as well.

Tripadvisor has a fairly active Fiji Forum with several regulars that either live there or visit several times a year. These posters and others have proved to be very helpful in answering both general and specific questions about Fiji. I e-mailed several personally through tripadvisor and I always got helpful and thoughtful responses to my inquiries.

I would have liked to have used this forum before tripadvisor, but there just isn't the interest in Fiji here like there is over there. I look forward to being able to contribute more here after my first visit next year.

Bill

I just reread this and wanted to add that Fodors has been helpful in my planning. I did use the search function here and did find several older posts that helped a lot, particularly Kiwi_acct's posts on Navini Island Resort...which is where we evetually ended up booking.

Bula Bill!!

I just purchased Moon's Fiji by David Stanley. I'll post back after I our over it.

Thanks for the referral... I just can't seem to get enought info on Fiji. It looks like it will be a great destination to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

We are still working out the details. Thanks for all your help.

Wow, this is great. I just found out about a conference I want to attend. It is being held in Fiji in July 08 at Wananavu Beach Resort. I had been considering a trip to New Zealand with a stop over in Fiji but always with the thought of late spring or early autumn. July puts a spin on it. Any advice on trying to make a combo trip in July?

I told myself I would buy a book on Fiji today. Thanks for the referral. Perfect timing. it's a sign! I better get packing : )

Aloha makai and lauricelli. One caution about the book: Since development is on the upswing in Fiji and things are changing, the accomodations information in the latest edition might be a little out of date. Other than that I can't recommend the book highly enough.

Bula Bill!!

Moon's "Fiji" has an updated August 2007 issue... I looked at the "South Pacific" edition that you recommended, but the date was older, November 2004, so I opted for Fiji.

I've read that people who love the South Pacific region wouldn't be without Stanley's guidebooks... just a wealth of information. Watch for a new edition of South Pacific... there's bound to be one soon.

aloha makai,
Thanks for the tip about the book. That's good to know. It just went on my stocking stuffer list for Christmas! Mahalo.
