Fiji honeymoon:secluded beach

Hi,

We're deciding about our honeymoon next April and we want to go to Fiji.

We're after somewhere luxurious/deluxe, with a spa/jacuzzi and a private beach.

So far we've narrowed it down to Wadigi, Namale, Taveuni (esp. Matalau Villa), Yasawa (Lomalagi Bure). Vatulele seems out of our price-range but that's before getting to this site and finding out about luxurylink.

Can someone please comment on what they think about the above places. Especially on crowd, seclusion, bures, food, beach ... oh everything really.

It'll be good to get an all inclusive package. We don't mind if we don't meet anyone or make any new friends.

It's great to finally find a way on getting first-hand experiences rather than relying on the travel agents.

Incidently, we're flying out of Australia so if anyone can recommend a good agent, that would be appreciated.

Thanks heaps.

-- Nanda.

I went to Vatulele last year and it was fantastic. Very secluded, beatiful,"huge" bures and the beach is awesome. Maximum of 36 quests on the island and during my trip there were only 13 other visitors. The service was impeccable. They offer a couple of dinner options each day but with notice you can order whatever you desire. During my stay Tommy Lee Jones (the actor) flew in on a black helicopter that landed on the beach. He and his quest were the first visitors to the newly opened Pointe Villa. He was very friendly and actually sat and had beers with us. Downside to your request; there is no spa/jacuzzi.

I have also visited Yasawa and it is very nice, however, a much "wetter" climate. Vatulele was my favorite. Hope this helps.

I think Turtle Island Resort has spa/jacuzzis in the room. I remember seeing them once in a website. Katafanga resort is supposed to have a private plunge pool in each bungalow - but their grand opening keeps getting pushed back. Who knows if it will be open by April? Both places I mention are about $1000/night.

I remember seeing on here over the last month or so, a posting about a private 2-acre compound that only allows a maximum of 6 guests - I can't remember what it was called, though. I'm sure you'll find it in a search. Good luck!

We've been to Turtle (before the in room jacuzzis, Namale & Vatulele. We have been waiting to hear about Katafanga's opening also. I am a big fan of plunge pools & jacuzzis but really I never felt like getting in a hot jacuzzi when I am in the tropics! A cool plunge pool makes more sense. Vatulele is my favorite so far. Namales honeymoon bure Nanise is a wonderful room (with jacuzzi tub) & private deck, just the beach was not the best. Do a search & you can find some comparisons I did in the past. Wadigi sounds great. Don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices, & Vatulele is not more expensive than Yasawa, unless you're looking at the new Point House.
Anyway, good luck & let us know what you decide.

Oh wow.. thanks guys.

We're currently waiting for April prices to be released. Hopefully they'll be favourable.

We're also considering Taveuni Palms that we heard from someone on this list (bula). The people there are so helpful over e-mail down to getting flight prices for us from Melbourne.

Namale - I keep hearing that from people about the beach not being "the best".

dbuck (and other Vatuleleans) - how secluded was the beach in Vatulele. Are the bures allocated their own beach space or is it just not-crowded?

Thanks ....

I'm planning my honeymoon as well and have never been. I agree with Peggy that Vatulele is just as pricey as Yasawa if you're staying at the Lomalagi Bure - could be more once the prices go up. Are the deluxe bures not nice enough for a honeymoon? If the deluxe bures are an option, is alcohol so expensive that it evens the cost?

How secluded do you want the beach at Vatulele? At our Bure (#4) we had a private path to the beach with our own beach hut & lounges shielded by bushes on both sides, open to the ocean (no I would not nude sunbathe there) or you could move the lounges out further if you wanted. Stick a flag in the sand & drinks were on the way. The beach is wide & long & the bures a hidden along the foliage with a good distance between them. I believe each bure is on an acre. But if you get down at 17 or 18 you have a long walk to the dining area (they will bring a cart if you want) We could walk 30 feet, grab a bottle of champagne & a hobie-cat & be off for sunset! Ah heaven...
