female travelling solo- tour and extra days in Cairns and Sydney

I am about to book my first trip to Australia, travelling solo. Has anyone every heard of a tour called OzXposure? SOunds pretty cool and caters to the single traveller. It appears to also hit the high points of the Eastern Coast. Is it safe to travel in Australia as a single female?
Also, I am going to stay a few days in Sydney. Any hotel suggestions for something that is basic, clean, and easy to get to places from? Same as for the Cairns area. I might stay an extra day at the end of the tour. Thanks!
