Driving the Sth Island in January, route suggestions?

Jump to last reply

So although due to both daughters getting married next year we had decided no trips in 2014, we are now thinking we might sneak a 'little' one in

We've been to the Sth Island a couple of times in the winter, Queenstown for skiing mostly, with a couple of short drives. This time we'd like to spend 2-3 weeks exploring the other parts, Milford Sound & the wine trail are two must dos. We were hoping to do it in a Motor Home, we did this in Spain earlier this year and loved it. But the cost seems a bit much, unless anyone has any recommendations for us?

Our interests are food, wine, pretty scenery/photography and interesting walks (not day long hikes but an hour or two). So I'd love to hear your suggestions for a route that would make the most of our time, while not racing. We don't really 'need' to go to Queenstown & we've only ever flown in and out of Christchurch, so I'm thinking a couple of days there might be nice?

Thanks a always.
