Any special restaurants that I shouldn't miss while in Paihia? I'd like something that's more New Zealand than other cultures, such as Asian or Indian. It doesn't have to be fancy, just good. I'm just as happy with a good plate of fish and chips as with a plate of scallops dusted with 15 unusual items. Thanks in advance!

Well you should be able to get a good feed of fish and chips [ and see if they smother the chips with a garlic butter mix for had some in another town and found that in unwrapping them] for I recall a few cafes and takeaways but not a huge lot more, certainly not a heap of restaurants but I wasn't paying much attention to finding any either when there.
Keri Keri on the other hand [not too far away] had a courtyard off the main street that a couple of interesting eateries.
heard good things about Salt, but haven't been myself. We always liked Only Seafood.
oh, and as a day trip, the Fish and Chips Shop in Manganui is the BEST! About an hour drive from Paihia, but a beautiful day trip.

We went for a meal on a moored ship - the name of which escapes me - but the food was poor and the service abysmal.
Don't go there.
