Coffs Harbour

Hi, Al!
It depends on what you mean by "decent". There are quite a few luxury-looking motels and resorts along the highway, and as you drive in you'll be able to take your pick. But, remember, these highway places are NOT on the water, and they rely on their easy-to-spot location for their clientele. When I pass through Coff's, I never touch them... instead, I turn right down the main street and travel as far as I can to the water... there is a caravan park down there. Then I turn left and drive along the water's edge for about another 2 or 3 km until it looks like I am actually getting away from Coff's... and there it is! I say "it", because I can't for the life of me think of its name, but it's a hotel/motel which is pretty ordinary, really (and cheap!), but its units lead straight out onto a L-O-N-G and mostly deserted beach.... as far as the eye can see in both directions. You don't even have to walk across the road. I love being able to have my swim and then in less than a minute walk back to my room for a shower. Wish I could tell you the name of this place, but even with my lousy directions, you're bound to find it. Good luck!

We had a great stay at the Pelican Beach in April. It is on a big, open beach just above Coffs itself. There is a nice restaurant there where you can eat fresh seafood on the patio. The staff was very helpful. There's also a very attractive pool area. The place was quiet and quite reasonable for a beach resort although I think it gets a little busier during the holidays. It's right off of the coastal highway so you can head north easily or go see the Big Banana.

Ahh! Coffs Harbour, what a place to visit. One of the very best coastal cities in NSW. What can I add that would encourage you to stay and have a good look around and breathe in the very best of what life has to offer in Australia.

Coffs Harbour thinks of itself as a holiday destination and as such has a very wide range of accommodation options. From backpackers (three) to hotels, motels, caravan parks, flats, apartments and of course as someone else mentioned, the numerous luxurious holiday resorts.

Even if you weren't to find accommodation close to the beach (unlikely at this time of year but I wouldn't go on the offchance at Christmas), everything is close at hand really......you can walk (pleasantly), bus, taxi or stretch limo to anywhere in Coffs within half an hour. I say half an hour for the walking persons.

Have a great time,
Carole.
