Christmas Day in Sydney
Does anyone know which restaurants in or around the Rocks or Circular Quay that would be open for a late dinner on Christmas Day? Looking for someplace to eat after our Bridge Climb that evening. We will eat lunch in Chinatown that day and suppose we could go back there if there aren't any options available.
Also do you know if the Christmas lights will be on that night or do they end on Christmas Eve?
Thanks.

I can't really answer your question tp, but my best guess would be the lights will be on until New Years at least.
A couple of sites to source restaurants are Dimmi.com.au and zomato.com. Perhaps you could then contact the restaurant to see if they plan to open. At least you have Chinatown as an option

bestrestaurants.com.au has some that are open but eating out on Xmas day can be expensive eg $150 per adult . As its a public holiday staff get a loading of 50% on their ordinary pay .
Re the lights - I would be surprised if they go to NYE. The Lights of Christmas on St Mary's cathedral finishes Xmas day

Thanks Sartoric and Northie. I figured it would be more expensive going out to eat on Christmas night but I'm glad the workers are being fairly compensated for working on a holiday; not always so here in the States.

The restos around Circular Quay will actually (in some cases) tell you you're getting up-charged on holidays. IIRC, Sydney mandates a 10% hike in restaurant charges for holidays (that's on the customer, the regulations in place for employers is another issue). And the Rocks/Circular Quay restos aren't known for vigorous price competition . . .

I can't help since I stay with friends and we don't go out for meals around that time.
But here's what I would do: Use google maps to bring up "The Rocks Sydney AU", zoom in until you see the names of the businesses, then use google street view to look at them and use google to see their websites to see the menus and contact info etc, then simply make a few phone calls.
Just figure out the time difference.
Cheap, easy, you'll get an answer in seconds.
From the US, first tap 011 (to get an international "line"), then 61 (country code for Australia), then whatever the phone number of the business is - in Sydney it will start with a 2 and probably a 9 and seven more digits.
