Camper Van - Can I park at the side of the road overnight??

Camper Van - Can I park at the side of the road overnight??
or can I park in a public car park? I've picked some nice looking holiday parks for some nights but for others I'm wondering if we can find a nice beach and just stay? All advice very gratefully received!

There aren't many good beach locations that I know of, where you can park your campervan along the roadside. We did this at a rest stop near Whakatane, and once near Haast, but that's about it. In general, we always stayed at holiday parks, which are inexpensive and ubiquitous. Parking along many roadsides is restricted, although you see folks parking in pull-outs or rest stops.
