Cairns Airport Hotel?
We need a place to stay for 1 night on Dec. 30th for a flight out early the next morning. We will arrive in Cairns from Lizard at 16:30-- interested in quiet, reasonably priced, clean room. Depending on time we may be interested in going to Tjapukai. Would this be worth it/how far away is it? Thank much!

There's no hotels at Cairns airport, its only about 5km out of town. You'll find heaps to choose from if you do a search.
Tjakupai is about 15-20 minutes north of Cairns city and transfers are available from town for Tjakupai at Night dinner show (you'll be too late for the day performances). Your hotel will book it for you.

Thanks for the reply. do you know anything about the Shangri-La Hotel?
They are reasonable and available.
Also, is the dinner show at Tjapukai worth going to? And one more question:
should we take taxi from airport or get hotel airport transfer? How much $$ should it be? Thanks for all your help.

Nice to see you popping up from time to time Andrew.
tpivnick, I did happen to be in a Shangri-la room the other day, perfectly nice and freshly decorated. It was the old Radisson before its re-vamp, built around late 80's. Its a good position, on harbourfront, the room I was in looked over the pool but a front room overlooking harbour would obviously be better.
I don't know if Tjakupai at Night is "worth it", if you'd like to experience some Aboriginal culture, yes, but I wouldn't go there for the food, its quite OK, but nothing special. But you could say the same of just about any similar sort of show, anywhere.
A taxi from Cairns airport to Shangri-La would cost about AU$15-$16, sorry don't know cost of Shangri-la transfers. If you decide not to go to Tjakupai, there's a row of good eateries on boardwalk, harbourside of Shagri-la, just walk outside hotel. The last one on northern end, Donnini's Ciao Italia is popular with locals.
