Brisbane, need short term accommodation
Hi, we are moving from Melbourne to Brisbane and looking for short term accommodation, for a month or two. Can anyone recommend anywhere?
I'd like to be easy walking distance to shops, cafés, public transport etc. We need one bedroom with kitchen and bathroom. I've looked on Stayz and Trip Advisor but would appreciate any suggestions. Prefer moderate price (under $120/night). Thanks for any help.

Anyone?
I have been scouring the net and costs do seem high. My idea of $120/night seems a bit optimistic.
Unless someone has a brilliant idea I haven't thought of we will just have to bite the bullet and cough up.

Also Domain.com - although more of the rentals will be 6 mths minimum, it can be worthwhile to call the real estate agents in areas you like to see if they have any shorter term places on their books, which aren't on the website.

The Riversie Hotel is in a great location at Southbank - lots or restaurants, activity etc. a quick check also found these nearby but I urge you to check reviews on tripadvisor perhaps as these are not s personal recommendation.
Westend Central Apartments - http://www.westendcentral.com.au
Parkview Apartments http://www.parkviewapartments.com.au
Both near Southbank and rates around $140-$160
Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, I will check them out. I'm being fussier than normal because we will be staying for 4 weeks or more. If it's just a night or two it doesn't matter as much.
Hopefully a month will be enough time to find a 12 month lease on a rental property but we haven't rented in Australia for about 25 years so are completely out of touch with what is required.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Realestate.com.au will give you a good idea of what's available,. Depends on the area you're looking at but sometimes demands for rentals can be high. Do you have any areas of Brisbane in mind Kay?

Hi stormbird, we are thinking inner city but don't know the various suburbs well enough yet to pick just one or two to look at. We like the idea of being within easy walk of things - shops, cafes, supermarket, library etc. We love markets and book shops. Do you know Brisbane? Are there areas you would recommend?
If we find inner city rents way too expensive, the next option would be towards the coast. I don't have a job yet, that will be on my list too (not looking forward to interviews ugh) but the job and rental property will have to be within a reasonable commute. I'm sure it will all work out, we've done it before overseas. Just a lot of work to begin with.

Hi Kay start at Southbank and work your way out from there. West End is very trendy but you know there are suburbs that fit your criteria North and South of the river. Please touch base again when you get up here and let me know where you're thinking and I'll be happy to offer pros/cons etc.Ultimately I guess, not will depend where you end with a job. Good luck with all of it Kay!

Thanks stormbird, much appreciated. I have looked at West End Central and Parkside that you suggested, they both look good. I also found Morgan Suites in the same area but it's a bit cheaper.
I had found a few places in Spring Hill but from reading, I think Southbank or West End may suit us more. Very hard to know from a distance though! (Not that we are trendy, far from it, but the restaurants and cafes sound appealing.) This is all short term I am looking at, for a month or possibly a bit longer.

As suggested by other posters, domain.com and realestate.com are good for searches especially if you use the advanced search facility and include furnished in the criteria, here's a search via realestate.com, I think Meriton do short term rentals and they seem well within your budget

Hi, for anyone still following this thread, I've booked Vine Apartments in South Bank for a month at $120/night which seems a good price. I looked at so many places I was driving myself crazy. The location looks good, though sometimes hard to tell until you get there. We are going to try and get a long term lease quickly which I think will be tough but we can try. Otherwise it will be more short term accommodation for a while. We have also considered housesitting.
Also if anyone else is looking, Morgan Suites offered a good rate via email for a month long booking (cheaper than their website).
