Bora Bora or Fiji?

My wife and I are exploring the possibility of planning a trip to the South Pacific this October/November and, due to various considerations, have narrowed it down to Fiji and Bora Bora. We would appreciate any tips that anyone who has been to either of these islands may have, particulalry with regard to the Starwood (Sheraton/Westin) accommodations. We are moderately active (mid-30s) but we are not scuba divers or surfers so we are interested in activities that novices can do without much training (ie. snorkeling). Also, we are concerned about the weather in those locations at that time of year. Any advice would be appreciated.

Biz,

The weather at that time of year is generally very good and I have been to both destinations a few times. Generally we have gone anywhere from late Sept. to mid Oct. and have experienced mainly dry weather, which is always preferable. The most comprehensive site for all kinds of info on all of French Polynesia is www.tahiti-explorer.com. I would suggest you have a look.

In Fiji we stayed most of the time off the main island in the Yasawas at the Yasawa Resort. It was just fabulous altho quite expensive but worth the cost if your budget permits. It's s small resort on a very remote island and offered good accommodations, food service etc. in a very relaxed atmosphere. The kind of place where you can keep busy if you like or just kick back and relax and enjoy your wonderful surroundings.

On the main island we stayed 4 nights at the Sheraton Resort which was good but IMO the true beauty of Fiji is definitely experienced off the main island, just as I would say the same is for French Polynesia, in regards to Tahiti.

In F.P. we spent the majority of our time on Moorea but we have visited the other islands as well. The Sheraton Resort on Moorea is lovely and the OWB's are terrific. You might also want to consider a cruise of the islands with a few days post or pre cruise. That way you can get a good overview of the region. It all depends on what you enjoy doing and what kind of vacation you are looking for. Both places are unique and have there own particular charm.
