Bora Bora Lagoon Resort

I've read quite a few messages, which speak highly of the Hotel Bora Bora but have heard nothing about the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. I have been planning a trip to French Polynesia for many years and it is finally possible for me to do it. Bora Bora Lagoon Resort is considered to be one of the top hotels in the world, however, the rate for an OWB is tremendous! I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has stayed there recently. How frequent are the shuttles back and forth from the main island? How late do they run? Will they allow for having dinner at some of the other properties on the main island so one does not have to rush through dinner? What are the best places to eat on Bora Bora? I appreciate any insights/recommendations.

I'm planning my trip for end July 2000 and would also like to find out whether anyone has ever heard of deluxe packages to Bora Bora that would bring down the $700+/night rate. Many thanks,

I am going on a cruise of the islands in July on the Paul Gauguin. My cruise fare for 7 days, $2744.00, includes all meals, entertainment, wine with lunch and dinner, a mini bar with 4 kinds of liquor and all soft drinks and bottled water, replenished daily, all gratuities. I'll get to see Tahiti, Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora (2 days) and Moorea (2 days). And my airfare is only $395 round trip from Dallas. What a deal! I can't wait.

Thanks for your reply ... Although I don't really go for cruises, I'd be interested in finding out how you booked your cruise package, i.e., travel company, etc. Thanks much!

We just stayed at the Hotel Bora Bora and only briefly saw the Bora Bora Lagoon resort. Before knowing that it was very pricey, our first reaction was "what is that tacky looking place that has rooms piled on top of one another" as we cruised by the resort. After suffering from another pricey hotel in Polynesia, that had rooms on top of one another, I am very glad that we didn't stay there.

Hotel Bora Bora gives you the service and quality that one would expect and the location is the best on the island. We consistenly found the guide books to be rubbish in most cases. They often rave about "resorts" that expensive and classify them as "ultra-deluxe" but we came to the realization that the classification had more to do with the price rather than the quality. At all costs avoid the Beachcomber resorts, which are consistently low quality (food, service, etc) and do what you can to book into Hotel Bora Bora. It's a pitty to travel that far and to be disappointed.

Service throughout Polynesia is very hit or miss (regardless of price) so go with what you are hearing in Bora Bora. You want this to be a memorable holiday.

CJ, regarding the Bora-Bora Lagoon Resort, what did you mean by "rooms stacked on top of each other?!?" From what I can see on their website as well as from the brochure, the "rooms" are the same SINGLE LEVEL style "huts" that are found at the Hotel Bora Bora, etc.!!
