We are planning a return visit to Australia for my (Blank) birthday which is in January. Plan is to return to Sydney, then go on to Hobart and Melbourne (Adelaide is also possible). Not being given to heat and humidity, we are considering going either in early March or early April. Coming from Chicago, we have no promblem with COOL weather but would like to avoid RAIN if possible. Also coming from Chicago, we know there are no guarantees about the weather but would like to know if there is any significant diffence in weather in these cities between the two months.
Current plan is 4 nights each in Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne. Would add on 4 nites in Adelaide if anyone advises us to do so.

March would be a good time to visit all three places mentioned. We were in Hobart in early February this year and the temperature was about 30-35 Celcius every day (that's 90-100 F).
By March the weather is usually very stable with little rain. Hobart is normally cooler than Melbourne or Sydney but not guaranteeable.

March is perfect for Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney. Instead of Adelaide why not think of coming to Queensland ( Brisbane) and going to the Gold Coast and its hinterland. The weather is lovely at that time of year and unless you come up this end you will miss some very unique areas of Australia.
I live on Tamborine Mountain which is behind the Gold Coast in the hills and we have heaps to offer here. The Gold Coast too has many and varied interesting things to see and do and is Australia's premier holiday destination.

I agree with what elin above says. I don't come from Queensland so I am not biased and I agree Queensland is a FAR better bet than Adelaide. Even though Tassie is nice I would be going to Queensland as a first choice.
