Aurora Australis sightings from the South Island

This past weekend's solar flares provided some good sightings of the Aurora Australis from the South Island of New Zealand (links below). According to one of these links, the Aurora Australis sightings "could spring up" anytime this or next year. (Though I have heard clear nights when there is not a full moon are best.)
