August Honeymoon Help?
Hello,
We're trying to plan our honeymoon in early August 2017 and debating between places. We're 33, on the East Coast of USA, have 10-14 days to spend and very active. We don't want to spend all our time lounging on a beach, we'd love some cultural things and active sightseeing like cycling and hiking. We considered the Maldives, but it seems pretty limited in terms of activities. We also considered Thailand, but sounds like it may not be the best time to visit weather-wise. We also considered Australia, but seeing as how its winter there, we weren't sure how that would affect things. Other options: Fiji, Hawaii, Indonesia, Bali. Now we're thinking FP, but there seem to be many options in terms of which island to go to. Bora bora seems nice, but kind of the main touristy place, and I heard prices can be very high. Moorea also seems really nice, I mean really, they're gorgeous islands, how do you differentiate? In terms of travel, is this somewhere we can stay for 2 wks, or should we plan to have a few days layover in another destination to a) keep us busy, and b) perhaps with the time zone change? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Australian winters are nothing like east coast USA winters. It would be a great time to visit our northern States. Have a look at Australia.com
Amongst other things, you could visit the world heritage Great Barrier Reef & the rainforest hinterland - thus ticking off your diving wish.
If you did an open jaw - say into Cairns & out of Sydney, it would maximise your time in country

Winter in Australia is more like winter in California. We've traveled from Cairns to Tasmania in August and didn't find it limited what we did and it's actually a better time to visit northern Australia. Winter is also low season in much of Australia.
French Polynesia is expensive in general. With 2 weeks, I think you'll want to island hop rather than stay in one location.

Have a look at this post to excite you about Tahiti. It made me look at planning a 25 year anniversary trip there but as it's rather $$$ we could probably afford about 5 nights only. If you have the budget it looks gorgeous but as Patty says you might want to island hop.
Australia gets my vote.
I have been many times to Australia(Brisbane/Gold Coast)in the 'winter' and it's better than a Kiwi summer! So much to do if you stick with the northern states - Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory. WA might be a bit far but you could have a great holiday in just Queensland.

My (future) husband and I are going for our honeymoon in May. From the east coast you either have to fly from LAX or Honolulu. We opted for Honolulu via Hawaiian airlines. They only offer flights on Saturdays, but we added a few days on Maui beforehand. We will spend a total of 7 nights in French Polynesia (1 night @ Intercontinetal Tahiti, 3 @ Hilton Moorea, 3 @ Conrad Bora Bora) and 3 nights on Maui, for a total of 10 nights (plus two overnight flights). The flight from Hawaii is under 6 hours, and they are the same timezone, so your body will be adjusted by the time you arrive in FP. You may want to look into this option, and knockout two locations in one trip.
