Alternative to Vatulele and Fiji? Bora Bora vs. Baderra Island?

Due to the unrest and current uncertainty in Fiji, my fiance and I have cancelled our honeymoon trip to Fiji in October. We picked Vatulele for its beautiful beaches, high quality service and relative exclusivity/ seclusion. Two of the alternative options that our travel agent has recommended is Baderra Island Resort in the Great Barrier Reef, Australia or the Hotel Bora Bora? Has anyone been to any of these places and can provide a recommendation? Thank you so much!!!
Dear Stella,

Many thanks to your reply to my email - my husband and I do hear alot of conflicting info on Fiji - people who have come and gone with no problems at all - but it is a comcern and worth investigating - (my husband is recovering from a bad injury so we do need alot of peace and quiet) But I did want to also offer you some advise - We had been to Hotel Bora Bora last November - 2 years ago - We had a wonderful time there - we stayed in a fare - with a private small pool - it was just wonderful - the blue lagoon that the Hotel sits on is just magnificant - stunning in every way - Bora Bora was our favorite of the Islands - we were there in November and the weather was very very humid - I think October would be alittle better - a good friend of mine will be going their for her honeymoon in Sept. and then to Maui(four seasons. We were also in Bali last year which we loved we stayed with the Aman properties and an incredible - actually one of the best places I have ever stayed called Begawin Giri Estate in Ubud in Bali - if you are at all interested in Bali - please advise and I will be happy to give you more details. We have yet to gone to the great barrier reef - but I hear incredible things about it - sorry that I can not offer you info on that. I wish you a wonderful wedding and I know you will have a fantastic dreamlike honeymoon!!!

Stella..

I've got no experience on Bora Bora, but I think you may find Bedarra Island in Australia to be a little too exclusive, and quiet - very small number of guests - and very little activities, which you may need occasionally even on your honeymoon.
I think Hayman Island on the Great Barrier Reef - Whitsunday Islands area might be the place you are looking for.
Do some research on it, and see if you agree.

Hi,

i noticed your request and wondered if you had thought about 'island hopping' around the Whitsundays/Great Barrier Reef. For example, Hayman Island is a fantastic, more exclusive resort that is perfect for honeymooners. Hamilton Island reminds me of "Fantasy Island" and is fun, fun, fun. Then you have the "Reef Sleep" experience which is done through Fantasy Cruises and offers two couples only the opportunity of sleeping literally on the Great Barrier Reef. A private chef is included and if you dive, you can night dive. Even if you don't dive, it would be a truly incredible experience as there is not a speck of land in sight. As for the reef itself, it simply has to be seen to be believed. I am reasonably well travelled and The Whitsundays/ Great Barrier Reef is a hard experience to top.

I work for a honeymoon magazine and we recently compiled a feature on this area, as well as Bali, Fiji and other exotic honeymoon locales around the world. let me know if you have any other questions or need contact info so you can get a brochure.

Cheers,

Tanya

If not too late, suggest resume plans to honeymoon in Fiji. We returned Aug. 3 from 9 days at Qamea Beach Resort. Saw no evidence of unrest except soldiers guarding Nadi airport. Perfect time to visit Fiji. Planes flying half full and resorts hurting. Go for it.

Vatulele is the most amazing place I've been! & that includes Turtle Island & Namale, though they are both wonderful also. We went the day after the coup started. Of course no one really had time to react then. It was fine for us but there has been hard times afterwards in several areas. The coup leader is in custody & being charged with treason. Who knows where that will lead. Vatulele was also offering discounts the last I heard so you may save some money also! E-mail the resort (of course they will say "come on down"!) but I do feel they are not interested in jepordizing anyone's safety. Good Luck!
