Airport Fees for Europcar Rental Cars

I just want to warn travelers. Watch out for airport fees on Europcar car rentals at Melbourne and Sydney. Europcar charges the maximum 28% fee on rentals at those airports. It is stated in the agreement that the fee can be from 3% to 28%. I was aware that there is a fee but have never had that high of one charged.

After numerous rentals over many years from their old location (Bayswater Rd) and the new one (now Williams St) I can recommend https://www.bayswatercarrental.com.au

They may still have limits on out-of-state travel etc so, as always, read the fine print. But if it fits, you'll be OK.

I tried Enterprise and did not notice such high fee. Was the fee in the original price quote or was it at least mentioned?

The airport pick up is mentioned somewhere in the rental agreement and in this instance got tacked on after you turn the car in. We had several rentals during our time in Australia. In one instance, also Europcar, it was mentioned specifically to us before we took the car. I am aware of fees at airports, but have never had one this high. We also rented with Avis at OOL and there was no fee for airport pick up or it was hidden in the oroignal quote given. So obviously it varies. Europcar I have read in the past loves to tack on fees. They also tried to ding us for not filling the gas tank completely. We disputed that with VISA showing our car receipt and did get that removed.

As parking fees at Melbourne airport have increased to $10 for 30 mins I can understand why the rental cars charge more. Owning an airport must be an incredibly good earning business.
