I have 3 days to spend in the Auckland area after taking a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The tour goes to the Rotorua area so I don't need to go there. I am considering the following:
Bush and Beach half day tour Wilderness Experience tour to Waitakere Rainforest and black sand beaches. I'm not sure how active this tour is but I like to take short hikes and am open to any other suggestions.
Ferry trip to Rangitoto Island. I just plan to take the boat over and then take the trail to the summit and go in the volcanic caves.
Ferry trip to Devonport. Walk to the top of Mt. Devonport. Any other suggestions of things to do in Devonport would be appreciated.
If weather is bad I plan to go to the Auckland museum. Any other suggestions for a rainy day would be appreciated. I'm going in March so I'm hoping the weather will be good.
Any other ideas of things to do in the Auckland area would be appreciated, including moderately priced restaurants and nightlife. I'm in my 40's.

For a rainy day, consider the Link bus which goes all around AKL. It is cheap, lets you see all the areas, and good for people viewing.

The museum is good. Also the Skytower. The dock area is 'jumping' at night with restaurants and bars.
There is a self-guided walking tour of Devonport which Mr. Pickle and I enjoyed. You can pick up a map at the information center.
We had lunch at The Codpiece in Devonport - delicious fresh grilled fish with kumara fritters for me, and a burger for my husband.
The Auckland Museum is definitely worth a visit; we only had an hour and could easily have spent a good chunk of the day there.
