Trying to plan dates for March so can get flights with air miles today. Thinking of 2 wks GBR & Whitsundays, then 2 wks Sydney. We can rent car and drive to wherever when in each of those areas.
Flights are from LAX to Cairns to Sydney to New Zealand then back to LAX. 2 wks each stop sound good? Or ???
thanks in advance for your responses.
2 wks in GBR &Whitsundays too long?

Yes...I would trim it back to say 8-9 including a trip down to the whitsundays.
Can you go cairns-brisbane -sydney
a diving loop around brisbane could be good at that time of year.
There is stacks to do so you could easily fill 2 weeks in each area. We had 3 nights at South Molle Island in the Whitsundays, 2 nights Airlie Beach, 3 nights Mission Beach (day trip to Dunk Is or whitewater rafting on the Tully River if you want), on to Cairns for 4 nights (visit Paronella Park on the way) then another 4 nights in Port Douglas. We like an easy pace with time for sitting in cafes with a coffee and swimming, shopping, relaxing etc. From PD you can do a reef trip and visit Palm Cove, from Cairns you can visit Kuranda on the skyrail.

Just a small point - the Whitsundays are not near Cairns. Apart from driving, the only way I know to connect is by train, and I think it's 8 hours or so. (may be flights - dunno!) Mind you, the Whitsundays are magnificent.
