1ST TIME PLANNING TRIP TO SICILY

My husband and I are planning a trip to Sicily next year, thinking maybe, June, July or August. Want to stay for approx 8 weeks when it is their summer. When is the best time.
Thinking of basing ourselves in Taormina. Any suggestions on self contained apartments.
Also want to do a cruise to the Greek Isles, don't know whether to do this as soon as we arrive in Italy or travel from Taormina.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
