14day NZ Campervan Itinerary - Feedback wanted

My husband and I and our 11 yr old daughter are looking forward to our first trip to NZ at the end of March. We fly into Auckland March 27 and out of Christchurch Apr 10. We have a camper van booked and are working out the itinerary.

We know that it is quite a lot of driving, but we will both drive and enjoy road trips, don't want to spend time in the cities, and are okay so long as every day has opportunities for getting out and doing short walks, taking photos, enjoy scenery etc. Husband is LOTR fan, daughter would love to see penguins and swim with dolphins. It's the latter part of the itinerary that we're struggling with (and unfortunately, that's the part that we need to book places for since it'll be a school holiday). Originally, we had planned to go back through QT to Mt Cook but then thought rather than backtrack, it'd be nice to fit in some east coast wildlife (if penguins can even be seen this time of year). I really had my heart on Lakes Pukaki/Tekapo area. Anyway, I'd love some feedback, thanks!

Tues 3/27 - Arrive Auckland 9:10am
-Pick up camper van and groceries, get out of town
-Drive (2hrs) Matamata for Hobbiton Tour (late afternoon or next morning if beat)
-Camp: Either Matamata area (or 1hr to Rotorua)

Wed 3/28 - (Matamata) Rotorua/Taupo
-Drive (1-2hrs max)
-Visit Thermal sites
-Maori sites
-Drive (1hr) south to Taupo
-Camp: Taupo area

Thurs 3/29 - Taupo/Tangariro/Kapiti Coast
- Drive (4-6hrs) depending on how far south we go
- Short walk/hike at in Taupo/Tangariro?
- Drive to Kapiti Coast
- Camp: ? somewhere on beach north of Wellington

Fri 3/30 - Wellington/Ferry/Nelson
- Drive(<1.5hr ) into Wellington
- Park and quick visit Te Pua/Wellington in morning
- Noon ferry to Picton (3hrs)
- Drive (1.5-2hr) to Nelson early evening
-Camp: Nelson

Sat 3/31 - Nelson/Punakaiki/Hokitika
- Shop Nelson Sat Market (8am)
- Drive (3.5-4hrs) to Punakaiki for lunch/walk
- Drive (1.5-2hrs) to Hokitika / Hoki gorge if time
- Camp: Shining Star Hokitika, visit glow worms and beach

Sun 4/1 - Hokitika/Glaciers
-Drive (2-2.5hrs) to FJ or Fox Glacier (not sure which to do)
-Take midday/early afternoon glacier walk (12:30 half day FJ?)
- Camp: Near Glaciers

Mon 4/2 - Glaciers/Wanaka
-Drive (3-4hr) to Wanaka
- Take time to enjoy Haast Pass/ Mt Aspiring photos & short walks
-Camp: Wanaka area

Tues 4/3 - Wanaka/Queenstown
- Drive (1.5hr) Queenstown
- So some kind of LOR tour or excursion
- Glenorchy/Dart River Safari or other tour (45min-1hr drive)
- Camp: outside QT towards Te Anau (Kingston, Mossburn?)

Wed 4/4 - Outside QT/Te Anau/Milford Sound
- Drive (5 hrs) to Milford Sound
-Take last afternoon cruise
-Camp: at Milford Sound (crowded parking lot?) or just outside on Milford Road (Gunns)

Thurs 4/5 - Milford ->Te Anau/towards Dunedin
-Drive (4-5 hrs) towards Dunedin
-take southern scenic route?

Fri 5/6 - Dunedin/Oamaru (Good Fri)
-Drive (3-4hrs) into Dunedin
-Camp: Dunedin/Oamaru area, visit penguin colonies

Sat 5/7 -Oamaru/Mt Cook
Drive (3hrs) to Pukaki, Tekapo
Hike/Good Shepard
Camp: Tekapo area, take night observatory tour?

Sun 5/8 - Tekapo/Akaroa? (Easter Sunday - is this place too busy? )
Was trying to get closer to Christchurch, and surprise daughter with dolphin cruise which she really wants, but may not be worth it?
Drive (3.5-4hrs) to near Christchurch, Akaroa?
Camp: Akaroa

Mon 5/9 - Akaroa/Christchurch
-Drive (1hr) to Christchurch
-Turn in Campervan
-Explore Christchurch
-Maori hangi at Willowbank if we didn't do one in Rotorua
-Sleep: Hotel downtown

Tues 5/10 - Christchurch/Airport
-Explore Christchurch
-Shuttle/taxi to airport by noon for flight to Sydney
