14day NZ Campervan Itinerary - Feedback wanted

Jump to last reply

My husband and I and our 11 yr old daughter are looking forward to our first trip to NZ at the end of March. We fly into Auckland March 27 and out of Christchurch Apr 10. We have a camper van booked and are working out the itinerary.

We know that it is quite a lot of driving, but we will both drive and enjoy road trips, don't want to spend time in the cities, and are okay so long as every day has opportunities for getting out and doing short walks, taking photos, enjoy scenery etc. Husband is LOTR fan, daughter would love to see penguins and swim with dolphins. It's the latter part of the itinerary that we're struggling with (and unfortunately, that's the part that we need to book places for since it'll be a school holiday). Originally, we had planned to go back through QT to Mt Cook but then thought rather than backtrack, it'd be nice to fit in some east coast wildlife (if penguins can even be seen this time of year). I really had my heart on Lakes Pukaki/Tekapo area. Anyway, I'd love some feedback, thanks!
