Your favorite guidebook, Southeast Asia

Jump to last reply

Does anyone had advice about a guidebook to use for Southeast Asia? I'm looking for an overview without too many details to help with initial trip planning and highlights. I've borrowed the Rough Guide from our local library and hate it (very overwhelming with too much info and not enough advice--plus, I'm a traveler who is budget conscious but certainly not a backpacker). I'm afraid Lonely Planet would be the same. Has anyone used Frommers? I'm usually a fan of their stuff, but as we'll be purchasing sight unseen, I'd like to get opinions of other travelers. Please don't advise me to look at what's available in a local bookstore; I'm living in a small community in New Zealand and none are available to purchase locally here!
