Yes, They Are wearing black in Bangkok
(Sorry, I'm having issues with my phone and can't add this to my other post)
I am in Bangkok, and it's pretty amazing to see almost everyone on the streets in mostly black outfits.
It can be a solid black or a print, even a white blouse topping black pants, but definitely no bright colors. Some people wearing other-colored uniforms are wearing black armbands or looped black ribbons.
All the shops are featuring black outfits and by the numbers of women buying them, I don't think they plan on going colorful soon. There are lots of inexpensive options and many very stylish ones as well.
You do see some tourists all decked it in bright colors ( getting lots of side glances) but many wearing black, or dark clothes. I was glad have worn my black top as several people commented nicely to me.

Some good graphics here which show what to wear during these days in Bangkok. More info too on the various machinations of the power people in Bangkok.
