Yangon Birthday Dinner

Looking for the best restaurant in Yangon to celebrate a birthday.

Prefer French. (This will be on day 9 of an 11 days Myanmar trip so a non-Burmese meal would be acceptable at that point.) High-end OK.

Research shows Le Planteur seems to be the winner. Is this correct? If not, where else?

Thanks in advance.

Le Planteur is excellent. See our report from a few years ago: http://www.travelindependently.com/a...unch-in-yangon

Have your hotel make a reservation... if you are eating dinner there they can send their antique car to pick you up and return you.

There is also a buffet with entertainment that is quite nice. In fact, it was the nicest entertainment at a buffet that I saw last year. Usually I detest them but the guys doing the elephant dance were fantastic.

If you want gourmet for the birthday dinner, try and do the buffet show during another night when you are in Yangon.

You can see my blog on my 4 days in Yangon here:

Some photos from the show can be found here:

There is other information about Yangon on my site but I did not go to Le Planteur. That sounds great--especially with the antique car added in.

For sure, you cannot go wrong with Le Planteur, they have a lovely garden close to Inya Lake and food and wine selection are very good. But you can also check the following:

- L'alchimiste: French restaurant around Inya Lake
- Agnes: French restaurant Kandawgyi park area
- RTH (Rangoon Tea House): high end gastronomic Burmese food. Though it is Burmese, it will probably be something you have not tasted yet in the country. The meat is delicious and they have crab samosas to die for !!

Enjoy your trip in Myanmar, it is a wonderful country!
