Hello,

I have read current threads about the flooding... this is my first time to Thailand and wasn't sure if anyone could anticipate what it will be like come mid-December? I also wanted to check... are the floods impacting any other areas of Thailand? I will be in Chiang Mai also. Thank you in advance. I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragedies of the floods and the devastating impact on the lives of the residents.

it should be fine in dec, but it really is too early to judge today, imo

I will be going back in mid-December for the holidays. I just left BKK yesterday morning (10/31). The city center was still dry when I left. If you are staying around city center you should be fine. Chiang Mai should be fine, as it was not affected in the same way that the provinces to the north of BKK have been/are being.

There is still a lot of water that is trying to drain off of the flat land north of BKK. There is still the possibility of flooding, but I think that as time passes, that chance becomes less and less. The gov't is trying very hard to protect the city center.

All accounts say that it may be 4-6 weeks before all of the flood water has receded completely. You should see the beginnings of a lot of rebuilding if you need to leave the city center, but most of the tourist places are in the dry city. The road between the city and airport is fine. High and dry.

I would probably not want to try to go to Ayutthaya as it was heavily damaged and will require a lot more time to recover.

We are visiting Thailand around the same time arriving in Bangkok on 6 Dec and will immediately fly to Chiang Mai. We return to Bangkok just before Christmas. I have no plans to change anything at the present time as I hope that the floods will have subsided by then. My main concern is that I have train tickets booked to return to BBK on 22nd Dec and the train line may not be reopened by then and so may have to rethink our return to BKK.

I have been in contact with people in CM who advise that things are fine there now.
