Which Thailand beach is best for early October weather?
We are looking into spending a few days in early October in a beach area. Is there an area we should focus on because of weather? The Gulf Coast or Andaman Coast? Primarily looking for relaxing and exploring more of Thailand in a quieter area than Phuket. We are considering Ko Lanta, Railey, Khao Lak, Ko Samui, or Ko Pha-Ngan. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

October is the most difficult month for Thai beaches. All areas will have rain and storms. Can you go to Thailand at a different time of the year? Can you substitute Bali instead?
If October is the only time, then be prepared for rain, be prepared for the beaches to be red-flagged.

Kathie: Thank you. Unfortunately, we have to travel in October. Our daughter is teaching there and has a few weeks off. Given that, do you recommend a certain area that would have more options for things to do in case of rain, i.e., cooking classes, etc. Thank you again.

In my experience, you will find cooking classes at any of the beach areas. Most of the good hotels offer them. But I expect you'll find more in very popular areas like Phuket. Be aware that Phuket has many different areas, some busier than others, some tackier than others, some nicer than others. I'd decide based on the hotel you like.
If it was me - and it isn't - I'd schedule plenty of time in Bangkok, where there are numerous wonderful doing classes, incredible wats to visit, and restaurants with world-class food, museums and house museums to visit.
